With Direct Contact Water Heaters, incoming water flows downward through a vertical column filled with stainless steel packing rings. As cold water comes into Direct Contact with rising hot combustion air from a gas burner, a
very rapid heat transfer occurs, absorbing 99% of the heat energy into the water as well as condensing the water vapor out of the combustion gasses and reclaiming the latent energy contained therein. Pure, heated water then accumulates in the storage tank for "On Demand" use, and clean CO2 and H20 combustion gas leaves the stack at near ambient temperature.
Bringing the water in direct contact with the combustion gases enables QuikWater units to produce high volumes of potable hot water on demand at 99%+ thermal efficiency. Water temperatures of up to 82C / 180F can be produced consistently with all standard units. Hot water can be water in volumes from 6 GPM (600,000 BTU) up to 7000 GPM (70,000,000 BTU) depending on the desired temperature rise.
Their very high thermal efficiency and consequent fuel savings make QuikWater heaters a logical alternative to conventional boiler systems for producing hot water. Even where existing boilers are not viewed as being due for replacement, conversion to a QuikWater unit can make economic sense. Fuel savings of up to 40% result in a payback time of as little as one year.
Alternatively, the efficiency of existing boilers can be improved by using the QuikWater units to pre-heat the boiler make-up water.
QuikWater’s patented design allows it to produce potable water and so permits its use in a wide range of commercial and industrial applications.Typical applications where QuikWater Direct Contact Water Heater might be used are:
