Engineering of a Finishing System for Protective Coating Application

Custom Thermal Applications provides customized, highly engineered finishing systems to a global customer base. From design and engineering through to assembly and installation, we built the automated system pictured here, and offer these highlights from its construction.

The 1,000&' long conveyor operates at 10 fpm and feeds product into a 4-stage power spray washer for removal of oil, dirt, burrs, and other surface contaminants. Cleaned products are moved through a forced convection dry-off oven which features overall dimensions of 54' in length, 12' in width, and 11'4" in height. With a heat capacity of 1.5 mil BTU/hr, it operates at 275°F to dry product with an 8 minute cycle time. The large environmental room, engineered to provide temperature and humidity controls to create ideal powder application conditions, also features a dedicated area for storing the powder materials. Constructed of aluminized steel with interior dimensions of 72' in length, 21' in width, and 11' in height, the dual zone, forced convection cure oven operates at speeds of 10 fpm to feed 18,000 lbs. of material an hour through to the 90' long cooling tunnel.
